Fat Guy in a Little Coat

Farley was a genius...just saying.

I think it’s safe to say that many of us suffer from seasonal weight gain in the winter. I typically blame the culture in the Midwest — stay inside when it’s cold and basically hibernate — that sort of thing. Lump on top of that all the football watching I do, which of course includes tailgating at Hawkeye Football games (I know, they sucked this year) — can you say, meat on a stick w/ a beer chaser? Needless to say, I don’t take the necessary precautions to keep my winter weight gain to a minimum.

Well this year, I did a pretty good job of it. I kept up my workouts. I ate a little healthier. I drank, oh the horror, light beer — {gag}. That said, I still managed to pack on roughly 8 lbs over the winter, which by most standards, is probably not much. What I’ll never understand is how easily 8 lbs goes on, but how impossibly difficult it is to shed those 8 lbs. So what’s a guy to do…

I’ve started working out like a maniac — two, sometimes even three times a day. I’ve started consuming meal replacement shakes and smoothies. Carb cutting…that’s been the hard one. Do you know how hard it is to give up beer and bread? It’s very hard, which is why I haven’t given them up. Hey, a guy has to have something, right?

So the goal is to shave my frame down to a svelte 175 lbs before the end of May. That’s roughly 15 lbs lighter than I am now. Last year, I hit 180 lbs at one point. I think I can do this…with a little help and encouragement. So my question to anyone who actually reads this is — how do you manage your weight loss? Any tips? I want to hear how others are being successful at cutting weight.
